Two bars that behave nothing alike

Energy is a clock, not a workload meter. It falls by 1 point every 5 in-game minutes—4 real seconds—and no activity makes it fall faster. It only stops during sleep, fainting, open UI panels and dialogue or cutscene mode. The cap is 240, which is 20 in-game hours of activity, and nothing in the game raises it.

Stamina is the opposite: it never moves on its own and only pays for tool use. Fishing costs 10 stamina the moment you hook something, and the pickaxe, axe and sickle each cost 2 per successful hit on a matching resource. Drawing water from the Basic Well costs 2. The cap starts at 320 and is raised only by eating Eden FruitEden FruitA limited exploration and reward item with several recorded acquisition routes. Essence.

The consequence is the one thing to take away: running out of stamina is an inconvenience, because at zero you simply cannot use any tool except the agricultural spray gun. Running out of energy is a punishment, because it drops you where you stand.

What fainting actually costs

Energy or health reaching zero forces a faint. Game time jumps forward 8 hours, you wake up at the farm, and health, stamina and energy are all set to 60% of their caps rather than refilled. Because the jump is a fixed 8 hours rather than a jump to morning, passing out at 2 a.m. puts you at 10 a.m. with a half-empty day and no rest bonus.

If you faint anywhere outside the farm you are also teleported home and fined. The fine is a flat 200 G if you were holding 500 G or more; between 3 G and 499 G it takes 40% of your gold, rounded down; below 3 G it takes nothing. Carrying money you have not banked is therefore the expensive part of a late night, not the lost time.

  • 500 G or more: a fixed 200 G
  • 3 G to 499 G: 40% of your gold, rounded down
  • Under 3 G: nothing

Sleep is the only clean reset

A bed offers two options. Sleep until morning forces the clock to 6 a.m.; take a nap is a fixed 3 hours. Each hour asleep restores 20% of every cap, so with no sleep-related equipment anything over 5 hours refills all three bars completely—in practice, going to bed before 1 a.m.

Sleeping more than 6 hours unequipped, meaning in bed before midnight, also grants the 16-hour Perfect Sleep-In buff, which raises how much stamina food gives back. And sleeping force-saves the game, so finish anything you might regret before you climb in.

You can also recover energy from coffee, herbal tea, beer and similar drinks, but not indefinitely. Going without sleep stacks three escalating debuffs at 18, 24 and 36 hours since your last sleep, and at the third level food restores no energy at all. The drinks buy you an evening, not a lifestyle.

Two field options soften late trips. A sleeping bag lets you sleep 6 hours where you stand—crafted at the Handcraft Bench or bought from Mira at the outpost supply point, which one player guide prices at 150 G. Certain chairs, such as the sofa near the general store and the seed shop, let you sit to pass time with slow stamina recovery, and you can save from a chair at any time without sleeping.

The infinite stamina loop, and the swing that ignores the bar

Two exploits are documented on the wiki and both are worth using early. Stand at any water source—a drawn Basic Well, or a shallow pool out in the world—and use a plastic bottle on it to fill it. Drinking the bottled water restores stamina and returns the empty bottle, so the loop never ends. It trades real time and energy for stamina, which is exactly the trade you want when energy is not your bottleneck.

The second is a quirk of how tools charge. The pickaxe, axe and sickle can be held down for a continuous swing, and stamina is only deducted on each connecting hit. If stamina hits zero mid-swing and you do not release the key, the tool keeps working until every resource in range is gone. A fully grown tree normally costs 12 hits at 2 stamina each; held correctly, 2 stamina is enough to fell it.

A player guide adds a third, less exotic route: blueberries restore 25 stamina each and grow in quantity, and bottled water is listed there at 10 stamina. Those figures come from a walkthrough rather than a reference, so treat the exact numbers as reported rather than confirmed.

Acid rain is a health drain on a timer

Standing in acid rain fills a corrosion meter shown beside your portrait. Every 30 minutes the meter fills, resets and takes 5 health with it. Three things stop it and also drain a meter that has already built up: being indoors, using the Shower, and wearing the Welding Mask you start the game with.

The Shower is the strongest of the three because it grants 6 hours of outright immunity rather than only pausing the meter. Health otherwise comes back from sleep, from most baked goods, dishes and drinks, and from farm furniture built at the Equipment Workbench.

Sleep and rest options

Recovery percentages are per hour asleep and apply to each bar's own cap. Sleep-related equipment increases them.

No-sleep debuffs

Measured from your last sleep. They reduce how much energy food returns, not how fast energy drains.
