Save and back up safely

  1. 01

Use a bed to create the in-game save, then return to the desktop. Do not edit live files while the game is open.

  2. 02

Open the SAVE folder for your operating system and copy the entire folder to a dated location outside the DolocTown directory.

  3. 03

Confirm that the copy contains the current doloc-save-0.data-style file and that its modified time matches the session you intend to preserve.

  4. 04

Keep this untouched copy until the replacement save has loaded correctly in the game.

How to roll back without gambling the save

The 1.00.02 release note confirms more background backup files, but it does not publish a dependable public map from every backup filename to an in-game day. For that reason, this guide does not tell you to rename an unknown file and hope. Close the game, preserve the entire current folder, and restore a dated manual copy—or a background copy only after its timestamp and slot are clear. If Steam Cloud presents a conflict, keep the local version until you have copied both sides.

Why older guides disagree

  • Formal version 1.00.02 changed the naming format to doloc-save-0.data and increased background backups.
  • Older Early Access posts use ea-doloc-archive-0.data. That filename is historical, not the current 1.0 name.
  • The parent DolocTown folder also contains player.log and player-prev.log; the saves themselves are inside SAVE.

The Windows path can be pasted into File Explorer. On macOS, use Finder → Go → Go to Folder.
